Wiki-links turn your notes into a connected web instead of a flat pile of files.

## Create a link

Type `[[` and start typing a note's title. Notate suggests matching notes as you go; pick one to insert a link. Click the link in preview or Live mode to jump straight to that note.

## The link card

Put your cursor inside a `[[wiki-link]]`, or inside an ordinary `[markdown](link)`, and a small card shows where it points: the note's title and folder for a wiki-link, or the URL for a normal link. It carries **Open**, **Change note** or **Edit**, and **Unlink**, so you can retarget or strip a link without picking apart the brackets by hand.

The card is part of the contextual toolbars. See [Formatting as you write](https://notate.md/docs/writing/formatting/).

## Backlinks

Every note tracks its **backlinks**, the other notes that link to it. That makes it easy to see how an idea connects to the rest of your work, and to move between related notes without hunting through folders.

## Links are just Markdown

Wiki-links are written in plain text in your file, so they travel with the note and stay readable anywhere. The [markdown guide](https://notate.md/markdown-guide/#links) shows the syntax next to every other construct Notate renders.
