From your Product and Meetings notes:
- Decided: pick a region on the map, show its size before saving, and refresh tiles automatically once back online. Spec – Offline Maps1
- Still open: whether the storage cap is per region or one global budget. Sprint Planning – 2026-08-042
- Next: field test the offline flow this weekend, building on Field Notes – Cascades Loop3.
Find
Search by meaning,
not just wording
Set the search mode to Semantic and Notate matches on what you meant rather than the words you typed. A question about running out of space finds the note that talks about the device storage limit, even though the two share no words at all.
It reaches images too. Notate describes the images you add, so a screenshot is findable by what is in it and can be used as context in a conversation.
…warn near the device storage limit rather than failing the download…
…show the estimated download size before the save confirms…
…the download flow held up; the storage warning never fired…
Analyze
The shape of what
you have written
The same understanding that powers semantic search can visualize your entire workspace. The Meaning map contours your notes into a topographic map. Subjects you write most about are displayed as peaks semantically grouped into a theme.
It also exposes content gaps: two subjects you often write about with nothing joining them. That is usually the note you have not written yet.
Write
Help with the passage
you are looking at
Select any passage and pick what you want done with it: rewrite, make it concise, fix the grammar, turn it into a list, expand it, or summarize it. The result replaces your selection in place, and undo puts it back.
Notate can also suggest tags for a note and write its summary from the content, so filing does not have to be something you remember to do.
Let hikers download a region and navigate with no signal, even miles from the nearest bar of service.
We should probably show some kind of size estimate before the download actually starts, because otherwise people on a small phone are going to fill up their storage without really realising it.
AI tools
A command for anything,
right in the chat
The assistant doubles as a command palette. Type /
to create notes, move and rename them, add tags, build folders, or
generate a summary, without leaving the conversation.
Every command runs immediately and lands in your chat history.
Type / to run a command.
Transcription
Record the room,
keep the notes
Record meetings, lectures, and voice memos. Notate transcribes the audio and structures it into a clean, filed note the moment you stop.
In meeting mode it captures system audio and your microphone together, and surfaces related notes from your workspace while the conversation is happening. There are four modes, it works from your phone, and the recording survives locking the screen.
Offline maps are on track. Maya has the region picker wired to the tile service, size preview is next. Devin landed the download estimate and starts elevation charts this week. Let's bump trail conditions ahead of photo waypoints
Common questions
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Notate does not use the content of your notes to train models. AI requests are sent to third-party providers to generate a result, under agreements that limit what they may do with it.
Can I use my own AI provider keys?
Yes, on the Sync plan. Add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key in Settings and Notate uses it, so the provider bills you directly instead of you buying the AI plan. Each key turns on the features it powers: an Anthropic key covers chat, writing tools and image descriptions, and an OpenAI key covers transcription. Semantic search is included either way.
Does AI work with end-to-end encryption?
No, and that tradeoff is deliberate. End-to-end encryption means the server cannot read your notes, so AI features and semantic search are turned off while it is on. Keyword search keeps working on your devices.
What are AI credits?
AI usage is metered in credits. The AI plan includes a monthly allowance that refreshes each billing period, and you can buy credit packs if you need more. Packs never expire and are only used once the monthly allowance runs out.
