Every note, on every device
Write on your laptop, pick it up on your phone, open it in the browser. Notate keeps your whole workspace in step, backed up, and available offline.
Cross-device sync
Your notes and folders stay in step across web, desktop, and mobile, in real time.
The web app
Open your workspace in any browser, not just the local apps. Nothing to install.
Works offline
Keep writing with no connection. Changes reconcile the moment you reconnect.
Cloud image storage
Store images and attachments in the cloud, with a generous 50 GB of space.
Image manager
Browse, rename, and organize every image across your workspace from one place.
Version history, synced
Browse, compare, and restore past versions of a note from any of your devices.
Rich link previews
Paste a URL and Notate turns it into a clean preview card, right in your note.
End-to-end encryption
Optionally encrypt notes on your device before they sync. You hold the key.
BYOK - Bring your own keys
Add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key and use Notate's AI features on your own provider account.
Cross-device
Start on one device,
finish on another
Every note, folder, tag, and favorite is the same everywhere you sign in. No copy-paste, no exports, no wondering which version is newest.
Notate syncs in the background over a real-time connection and falls back to a queue when you are offline, so you can just keep writing.
Let hikers download a region and navigate with no signal, even miles from the nearest bar of service.
Offline maps on track. Elevation profiles start this week. Trail conditions moved up after the interviews.
Ten miles, patchy signal above the treeline. The download flow held up; storage warning never fired.
Offline
No connection,
no interruption
Sync is something Notate does in the background, not something it needs to let you write. Every device keeps a full local copy, so on a plane or above the treeline the app behaves exactly as it does at your desk.
Changes you make while offline queue up locally, and the sync control tells you how many are waiting. The moment you reconnect they go out on their own, in order, with no prompt to dismiss and nothing to merge by hand.
Ten miles in, patchy signal above the treeline and nothing at all past the second ridge. Downloaded the region at the trailhead and the map held up the whole way.
Storage warning never fired, even with the photos
Backup
A lost laptop is
an inconvenience
With sync on, your notes exist in more than one place: the markdown on your own drive, a copy on every other device you use, and a copy on Notate's servers. Losing any one of them costs you nothing.
Sign in on a replacement machine and Notate asks where you want your notes to live, then fills that folder in: every note, folder, tag, favorite, and past version, as ordinary markdown files.
Default Folder Setting
Choose a default folder for Notate to use. You can change this in Settings anytime.
Version history
Every draft, kept and
recoverable
Notate saves versions of your notes as you work and syncs them, so the history follows you from device to device.
Browse past drafts, see exactly what changed, and restore any version in a click. Nothing you write is ever truly gone.
Image manager
Every image, in one place
Images you drop into notes are stored in the cloud and are available on all of your devices.
The Image Manager gathers every image across your workspace so you can search, rename, and clean them up from a single view.
Rich link previews
Paste a link,
get a preview card
Drop in a URL and Notate fetches the title, description, and image, and turns it into a clean preview card right inside your note.
The card is saved and syncs along with the note content, so the preview looks the same on all of your devices.
Reference for the tile pipeline, worth linking from the top of this note:
Vector tiles
Map data cut into small indexed tiles that render on the client, so a region can be downloaded once and drawn offline at any zoom.

Paste a link and Notate fills in the title, summary, and image.
Private by choice
Synced, and still only yours
Turn on end-to-end encryption and your notes are encrypted on your device and in transit.
Your local files stay plain and portable; the encryption rides along with the sync, and you hold the 24-word recovery phrase.
Security
Encrypt your notes so only your devices can read them.
Save your recovery phrase
These 24 words let you recover your cloud notes if you forget your password. Store them somewhere safe. Your local files on this device will always stay readable.
Common questions
Does Notate work offline?
Yes. The desktop and mobile apps read and write files on your device, so everything works with no connection. When sync is on, changes queue locally and go out when you are back online.
Where are my notes stored?
In folders you pick on your own device. With a paid plan a copy also syncs to Notate's servers so your other devices can pick it up, but the copy on your disk stays the original you can open in any editor.
Is my synced data encrypted?
Your notes are encrypted in transit whenever they sync. On the Sync plan you can also turn on end-to-end encryption, which encrypts note titles, content, tags, summaries, and transcripts on your device before they reach our servers, so we only ever store text we cannot read. You hold the only key, so keep your recovery phrase somewhere safe.
